🌟Personal Journey & Background
What inspired you to pursue your current career or passion?
In order to find as much adventure as possible in my career as an industrial-organizational psychologist, I chose to start the Frankfurt office for a London-based consulting firm in 1995. Adventure found me. For personal reasons, I moved to Boston in 1998. To make things work out, I moved 6 months later to Laramie, Wyoming, and eventually landed in Boulder, Colorado. I pursued my passion for leadership development and assessment with international clients such as Sony, Nike, and UBS. Later, I held roles with Korn Ferry in Minneapolis and BTS in New York City before moving to Philadelphia. BTW I came to Philadelphia following my wife who had to move here to pursue her career. The common thread across all my work has been this: helping people become more effective in how they work, and how they work together, and how they can experience personal satisfaction in the process.
💼Professional Insights
What’s the most rewarding part of your work?
As a Transition Coach, I often see people get stuck because life asks them to change their playbook faster than they are prepared to adapt.
The most rewarding part of my work is helping people pause, reflect, and find their way back to clarity through good questions. I do this with C-level leaders, mid-career professionals, and early-career talent. My skills are also highly effective in helping mid-market organizations work through change, increasing their focus, alignment, and humanity.
🧠Wisdom & Reflections
- What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
-
One of the smartest advice I’ve received is this:
When your mind is loud - write.
When your mind is empty - read.
When your mind is racing - walk.
When your mind is tired - sleep.
When your mind is sharp - build.
Much of the neuroscience published in recent years supports this simple and memorable guide.
- What book, podcast, or resource has had a big impact on you?
- I have been deeply impressed by Daniel Kahneman’s Thinking, Fast and Slow. It is brilliant, and also intimidating. The amount of insight is enormous, and the book asks a lot of the reader. I guess that is what happens when you read a book written by a Nobel Prize laureate.
🎉Fun & Personality
What’s a hobby or interest you’re passionate about outside of work?
Outside of work, I am an avid runner. Running up and down the Schuylkill clears my head and helps my cholesterol. In the past three years, I have run two marathons and three half-marathons.
🤝Community Connection
How has Philly100 helped you grow personally or professionally?
The Philly100 members are a remarkable group of mid-market entrepreneurs. I learn from them at every meeting. The forum creates a great amount of opportunities for conversation, networking, and shared experience. I just love that. I also value Philly100 programming. I have yet to attend an event where I did not leave with fresh ideas, useful insight, and impressive stories from the people I met.
